During your stay in
Halkidiki/Katerini/Thessaloniki, you have the opportunity to take a full day tour to
Vergina-Pella.
Vergina is one of the most important
archaeological sites of Greece. The site of the Royal Tombs as well as an
exhibition of the major finds from the burials at Aigai museum is protected by
UNESCO as world cultural heritage. You will visit the royal tomb of King Philip
(The father of Alexander the Great), the Tomb of the Prince (III), which may
belong to Alexander IV, grandson of Philip II and son of Alexander the Great. Some
of the major finds exhibited here are the two golden urns, containing the bones
of Philip II and one of his wives, two oak and one myrtle golden wreaths worn
by the royal dead.
Pella is our next stop
where we visit the ancient city with the monumental palatial complex and the
pavements decorated with magnificent mosaics and of course the new Museum
opened in October 2009.
